“Beirut, Arise, Beirut, so that love may survive”
After a gigantic explosion rocked the Lebanese capital Beirut on Tuesday evening, August 4th 2020, killing at least 137 people and injuring thousands, over 300,000 people have been displaced and made homeless.
We the Muslim Jewish Conference are starting this global fundraising effort to support Offrejoie, a Lebanese NGO, which has been highly recommended to us. Having listened to the voices on the ground and the trusted activists in our network, we are convinced it is the right organization to provide help at this crucial moment.
Offrejoie is an apolitical and non-confessional Lebanese NGO founded in 1985. It brings together volunteers from all faiths and all of Lebanon. Their mission is to gather the entire family of Lebanon together by treasuring humanity and by serving with and for the “Other.” Offrejoie believes that fragmented societies can heal through the creation of human relationships born of shared opportunities to serve the community. Right now they are mobilizing to support families in Beirut
” We will be cleaning and rehabilitating houses with the help of the volunteers and skilled workers. One street at a time, one house at a time. “
” Our volunteers will make sure families hosted in our centers in Kfifan and Maad have all their needs met and are well protected. “
The Muslim Jewish Conference is an Austrian based, internationally operating not for profit organization. For the past 10 years, the Muslim Jewish Conference has gathered more than 1.500 young changemakers – from over 65 countries – to engage in dialogue and together, create innovative networks of Muslim-Jewish cooperation. Through providing a safe space for participants to break down barriers and restore trust, the MJC has managed to become a grassroots leader in the field of interfaith dialogue.
We would like to humbly ask you to help the people of Lebanon
All donations will be collected by the Muslim Jewish Conference as registered, listed and trusted not for profit organization and will be directed to Offrejoie to be used in this crisis. Simultaneous campaigns in both of our communities are running as we speak and we will combine donations sending them to Lebanon as a joint gesture of support.
Whatever we agree to disagree about, the time is always right to do what is right.
