Join me in documenting the fascinating and vibrant Jewish community in Uganda, known as Abayudaya. I am launching a fundraising campaign to support this important project, and I invite you to be a part of it!

What am I raising money for? I aim to shed light on the Abayudaya community, their rich history, traditions, and unique way of life. Through in-depth documentation, I will capture their stories, rituals, and the challenges they face, creating a comprehensive and captivating record of their existence.

Why is this important? The Abayudaya community has a remarkable story of resilience and determination. Despite facing obstacles and being isolated from the wider Jewish world, they have maintained their Jewish identity and practices for over a century. However, their history and culture remain largely undocumented. By preserving their heritage, we can ensure that future generations have access to their incredible narrative.

Why now? The Abayudaya community is at a critical juncture. As the world changes and modernity encroaches, their unique traditions and way of life face the risk of dilution or even extinction. By documenting their story now, we can capture their practices in their purest form and help raise awareness about their existence.

How will I solve this challenge? Through a comprehensive documentary film, I will explore the Abayudaya community’s history, traditions, and current realities. I will spend months immersing myselve in their daily lives, conducting interviews, capturing their rituals, and documenting their vibrant community events. I will use a combination of interviews, visuals, and narrative storytelling to create a compelling and informative documentary.

How will the money be use? The funds raised will be allocated towards various aspects of the project. This includes travel expenses to Uganda, production costs, equipment rentals and post-production editing. Additionally, a portion of the funds will go towards community initiatives and supporting local artisans and businesses.

When will I implement the solution? I am ready to embark on this exciting journey as soon as I secure the necessary funding. With your support, I aim to begin production within the next three months, conducting research and pre-production activities. The filming and post-production phases will follow, taking approximately one year to complete the documentary.

By contributing to the campaign, you will become an integral part of this groundbreaking project. Together, we will celebrate the resilience and diversity of the Abayudaya community, ensuring that their remarkable story is shared with the world for generations to come.

Join today and make a lasting impact on the preservation of this extraordinary Jewish community in Uganda. Together, we can bring their untold story to the forefront and inspire others with their strength, faith, and cultural heritage.

Hey! My is Alon Sommer, I am a student of mathematics and economics at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. I like spending my time learning and reading about Jewish communities around the world, volunteering and enriching my knowledge about the history of the Jewish people. I believe that the connection between the Jewish communities in the world is an asset that we need to preserve and strengthen. In order to do so, I set myself the task of reaching isolated Jewish communities in order to expose them to the world and help them preserve their Judaism. This is my journey and I would love for you to join me :) You can reach me at: asommer28@gmail.com
