Why is it important to create a Hebrew learning tool?
Hebrew is one of the most essential assets Olim can have,
Without it there is low chance of working with Israelis or even in Israeli hours for that matter
Getting around the most mundane tasks like orienting oneself in a new environment, getting on the right busses etc.
Basic needs like going to the doctor, the bank, the mail, can be extremely difficult and frustrating
What’s the problem with Ulpan?
Ulpan is fine, but it’s not enough and can only get you so far without prior knowledge of Hebrew
What is the content you are going to use in class?
Things that are useful for Aliyah, going through items at the super market, menus, job interview scenerios, conversation with friends etc. obviously there will not be use of foul language or inappropriate subjects. all content will suit all ages and Kashrut levels
Hebrew for all Jews is a big task, why do you think you can make it?
I keep honing my teaching skills and methods by giving subsidised lessons for groups of Olim and I see and hear the results in front of my eyes
How will I know when the series is out?
I will send out a link to all donors once its up
When is it due?
3 months approximately
Where will the money go?
- Production of the video lessons, props, time, equipment etc.
- Subsidised Hebrew lessons for Olim here in Israel (on whom I test the methods and techniques)
- Spreading of the content to Jewish communities around the globe
About me
After my three years of military service in the IDF I learned at a Yeshiva which had lots of Olim, dispite being here for years (some over ten years) and completing Ulpan they were still unable to communicate in a basic conversation in Hebrew. It was then that I started teaching privately, I found it extremely fulfilling.
After Yeshiva I carried on with my journey as an entrepreneur while doing teaching privately on the side.
When I started doing large groups of young Olim and was introduced to the challenging experience they are having it was clear to me that it’s time to do create a solution for them.
