The Jewish Innovation
This project will produce a unique CD that combines Secular and Jewish original music to explore what Jewish Music can be and the direction it can take in the future. My hope with this project is to progress the way we think as a Jewish Community to utilize, write, and teach with secular and Jewish music. Combining elements from the sleep-away Jewish experience as well as traditional Jewish and secular folk I hope this project will be a step towards making the teenage Jewish experience and beyond more relatable and more importantly more singable!
The Impact
The Jewish people are rich with tradition, however engaging the next generation is becoming more and more difficult. Music is one of the best ways to connect and form relationships with teens and young students, this CD is inspired by the notion that you don’t just have to teach your students but entertain them as well. My personal Jewish identity was born in camp song sessions, NFTY jam sessions, and Friday Night Unplugged Shabbats with Dan Nichols. Those experiences allowed me to grow, connect, and find my Judaism as a teenage and I hope to do the same thing for the next generation. Through both directly Jewish music and seemingly secular music, this project hopes to introduce Jewish values in an exciting and interesting way while also being appealing to a secular audience. Because isn’t a huge part of being Jewish about loving yourself, being a good person, and enjoying life?
What Will You Do with the Money?
All money will go towards production of the CD. Working in conjunction with one of the biggest mensch’s within Jewish Music today, Saul Kaye, I will be putting together as complete of an album as possible. Saul will be aiding me with producing, post-production, and distribution. There is no person I trust more in the world with my creative dream for this project than Saul Kaye. I am hoping that the money raised with Jewcer will help create a fantastic and meaningful EP!
Also you might notice that a few contribution levels have specific duties. There are two songs, “Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore x Ryan Lewis as well as “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen that I am hoping to cover. In order to sell the songs and put them on my CD I would need to secure some licensing rights which do cost money. These contributions will go directly to the purchasing of these licenses and to recording these songs!
