The Jewish Innovation
When I was in my 20’s, I was always looking for new Jewish songs to sing and harmonize, and was excited whenever I encountered them and was able to teach them to others.
Lead singer, Eliana Horenstein brings her enchanting voice to this album of original Jewish melodies composed to traditional texts that can be sung at your Shabat and Festival table.
My father, Rabbi, Chazan Eliezer Jakob ז”ל inspired my love of Jewish song, and my mother, Sylvia encouraged my piano studies. I have been playing and composing songs for years. It is now my turn to share this with you.
“I Will Sing Out In Joy”, the name of the album, translates to “Aranen”, the name we gave our youngest son; the time had come after a long depression to say it.
Those of you who love to sing, harmonize, play, and listen to Jewish music know that we need more of it.
“Aranen” has been created at your request. Your opportunity to join this project has arrived. Your participation will enable this album to be completed and released into the Jewish world.
The Impact
We are a singing people. We proclaim “Aranen!” “I will sing out in joy at the works of your hands” (Psalm 92) or “Aranen!” “In the shadow of your wings, I will sing out in joy”(Psalm 63). We sing whether happy or sad.
We sing our prayers of gratitude as well as prayers of supplication in Shul. We sing around the Shabat and Festival table. This album contains new tunes for Kabalat Shabat such as Lecha Dodi, Tov Lehodot, Shalom Aleichem, as well as some new melodies for Birkat Hamazon (Grace after Meals). It also includes new melodies from stimulating Jewish texts such as Kohelet (Ecclesiastes), the Book of Ruth, and Psalms.
Expressive melodies composed to traditional texts enhance their meaning and stir deeper levels of spirituality and cohesiveness. We have repeated many of the same texts for nearly 2000 years. Isn’t it time we varied more of the tunes?
