We all hear the news about living in very restrictive quarantine in Madrid amidst dramatic and frightening daily tallies of people and businesses in serious danger from COVID. As the Spanish government tightens restrictions from quarantine to “hibernation”, we launch an urgent campaign to join us in supporting Congregation Bet-El in Madrid.
Pesach is an annual highlight and an important fundraiser for us which is not feasible this year. Without these contributions, our congregation is on the verge of distress, when quarantine is lifted, even for our basic services of Sunday School, Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation, celebrating Jewish holidays together and more. The extreme hardship in Madrid is on the news everyday all over the world, but we are living this reality: unable to step outside except for essentials, we are not even allowed to take a casual walk or do exercise outdoors. The economic impact is already massive, which as a consequence, is impacting the congregation’s financial stability. We are determined to persevere, to maintain Masorti/Conservative Judaism in Madrid. Join our determined effort and support us.
We urge you to support our Jewish community, to specifically help finance children’s Sunday School, Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation, Zionist activities and ensure the continuity of active, intergenerational Judaism in Spain. These activities need subsidies and exceed our limited budget. Your support will also enable Jews in Madrid to celebrate Pesach with matzoh, a siddur and feel connected to the other families while still in quarantine.
Masorti Congregation Bet-El was the first non-Orthodox egalitarian Jewish congregation in Madrid, founded 27 years ago, welcoming all Jews seeking a modern community. Our members are from many nationalities, some living far from their roots, yet bound by the passion to enjoy conservative Judaism.
Join our immediate call to ensure the stability of Bet-El and alleviate the burden of financial uncertainty for Bet-El and conservative Judaism in Madrid.
