Hi, I am Robin Flutterby Borakove, and along with my partner Paul Smith, we have founded the organization RelationshipsAreUs.com. In order to continue our work, we need your help to fund the many programs we have for special needs adults. Here is why I give my life to this work and how it is helping so many like myself.

After being diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, a low form of Autism, I found an autism conference that told me about an innovative type of treatment. I began receiving Neurofield, a non invasive form of nuerofeedback. This really helped me to become mainstreamed. I began focusing on my natural abilities and allowed my infinite well of creation to take over! Everything in life that I was good at began to shine. I became a non-profit, and created a character to deliver the message, “No matter the challenge, anyone can be a HERO!” Fairy Queen Flutterby™ globally tours her healthy messages with a strong focus on advocating for special needs adults.

Soon, my audiences’ needs became clear, their “Quality of Life” was suffering because of their lack of healthy relationships, and I knew how to resolve this! I now have some amazing relationships in my career, personal and social lives and want to educate others to have this as well. That is why RelationshipsAreUs.Com is here. With the help of my partner, and all of you that believe healthy relationships, we will, “Ensure the ‘Quality of Life’ for those with diverse abilities through healthy relationships!”

Often the so-called treatment for special needs people is to simply teach them how to do basic tasks, and push them through the system to become marginally functioning  adults who do not understand how relationships work. They therefore can end up in very dangerous situations, easily taken advantage of by people who can manipulate them.

RelationshipsAreUs.com is a project to help special needs adults learn to have healthy relationships, allowing them to thrive safely in today’s complex society. Our goal is to assemble a team of professionals to support this demographic. But currently, Paul and I can only do so much. I receive calls from parents everyday who I have to place on a waiting list until RAUC is properly staffed.

We intend to empower our clients through knowledge of personal health and safety, focusing on decoding the language of relationships. We’ll arrange movie nights, mingles, outings and chaperoned mock dating experiences, where they can  learn and practice social skills in a safe and comfortable environment, preparing for independent interaction in their own communities.

Reviewing our current clients, we saw the additional need of a support system for when their parents/caregivers pass away. Too often, the system currently places such people in a group home and forgets about them. At RelationshipsAreUs.com, we think this is not the way to treat other humans. Instead, we would like to assess their needs, partner them with another special needs adult to compensate for each other’s skill deficits, and continually monitor them for any issues, assuring that all needs are met. Having a relationship that supports both partners over their lifetime will reduce costs on society and provide a life to those with special needs, who of course are people too.

We need your help to provide professionals and licensed therapist, in fields including behavioral health and sexual education, to foster positive relationships. Providing social events and transportation for the large number of special needs adults we meet is also a big part of RAUC. When anyone is given the chance of living to their full potential, a successful outcome happens. I am living proof that this really works. Now that I have been given the opportunity, I am happier then I ever imagined possible.
