Since its founding in 2003, New Spirit has been at forefront of cultivating, training, and empowering young change-makers to engage in civil society and take responsibility for Jerusalem’s future. In just the past few years, these diverse communities of young Jerusalemites
have launched:
- 130 social, cultural, and artistic grassroots initiatives directly impacting 3,000 students and graduates and influencing more than 30,000 people throughout the city.
- 30 new creative businesses, grown an additional 40 businesses, and had a 30% growth in overall revenue in existing businesses.
- 13 urban renewal “creative place-making” projects in East and West Jerusalem neighborhoods.
In 2016, New Spirit opened their largest “creative space” project, the Alliance House, serving as an incubator for more than 100 young avant-garde artists, designers, and creative businesses in the heart of Jerusalem’s Machne Yehuda market. The Alliance House is a living model of a community of people from different backgrounds, working and creating together for the betterment of Jerusalem, where diversity is a source of inspiration rather than conflict.
New Spirit has paved the way for many grassroots movements to spark positive social change across Jerusalem.
Culture and a Creative Community: Culture bridges activism in powerful ways in a city like Jerusalem. New Spirit builds young communities, dramatically improves quality of life and helps support vibrant, engaging and cutting-edge culture in the city.
