The Park Slope Jewish Center’s historic building is facing a serious crisis. Whether you are a current/former member of the congregation, or someone who cares about Jewish life and cultural heritage– we urgently need your help! Our hundred year+ building’s walls have been damaged by water infiltration and exposure to the elements. They must be repaired and reinforced now to preserve the integrity of the building
Our synagogue was built in the early 1900’s to serve the great influx of Eastern European Jewish immigrants who began arriving in New York City in the late 19th century. For over one hundred years, this beautiful synagogue building has stood as an anchor for the local Brooklyn Jewish community. Its rich architectural design–an eclectic mix of Romanesque and Baroque motifs, typical of early 20th century local synagogue design- merited listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The building is an important piece of our New York Jewish heritage.
This building is also our home. PSJC has built a special community within these masonry walls; one infused with a love of Jewish life and spirituality. PSJC is home to an extended family of Jews who learn, daven, and celebrate together, rely on one another for comfort and inspiration and regularly engage beyond these walls with Tikkun Olam (efforts to repair the world). We are a community in the truest sense of the word.
But the PSJC building is in dire need of repair and we need your support!
Now is the time to act. While we have raised our targeted amount, matched by the very generous contributions of fellow community members, we still have a long way to go in our overall capital campaign. How far are you willing to go for PSJC? $25, $50, even $75,000 more? One generous matcher has offered to donate an additional $5,000 if we can make it to $150,000 by the end of this micro-campaign.
Construction on our building is starting soon, can you take us further towards raising the overall funds needed to make our building safe? Your donation will go directly to preserving the building, to ensure that PSJC can continue to have a physical space in which to provide so much for so many.
With your help, this beautiful, historic synagogue can continue to nurture a joy of Judaism and the development of good works in the greater community.
