Our kitchen, the heart of Temple Beth El’s many social action programs, is in need of renovation.  Throughout the year several different teams of volunteer cooks make use of our temple kitchen to prepare over 200 meals each month for the food insecure in our Township of Huntington.  We need your help so that we can continue these vital programs.  Our  social action programs include:

  • Project H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Eat)
  • H.I.H.I. (Huntington Interfaith Homeless Initiative)
  • Community Thanksgiving Dinner
  • Community Spaghetti Dinner
  • Community Summer BBQ
  • Food Pantry

Our cooks always prepare more food than we need for just our own programs, and the remaining food goes on to feed many others by going to one or more of the following local community organizations:

  • Haven House Bridges – family shelter, 3 separate locations
  • Tri-CYA – a Huntington Town youth agency
  • Family Service League
  • Manor Field Family Center – an agency that is part of Family Service League
  • The Hospice Center in East Northport
  • Individual families in the local Huntington community
  • Senior residents at Paumanack Village

Over the years our social action programs have expanded to meet the growing needs of the Huntington community and now our 30-year-old kitchen is seriously inadequate.  This renovation project will:

  • allow our kitchen to function more efficiently
  • allow us to prepare better quality meals
  • allow us to expand our existing Social Action programs

We have currently raised $93,500 from several generous donors; $77,000 from temple households, $15,000 from The Claire Friedlander Family Foundation, and $1,500 from the  Townwide Fund of Huntington.  It is our hope that you will join with us in continuing to make a positive difference for the food insecure in our Huntington Community.

Help us to continue to feed the hungry.

Our kitchen renovation project will include:

  • redesign of the kitchen layout and storage closets
  • installation of new sinks and faucets
  • new cabinets and stainless steel prep tables & shelves
  • new double oven and microwave
  • new commercial coffee maker
  • new refrigerator/freezer & new separate freezer
  • new pot filling station
  • new epoxy floor
  • relocate electric panel & additional electric outlets
  • reuse of the current range, refrigerator, exhaust vent, and dishwasher

Any funds raised in excess of what is needed for our kitchen renovation will be used towards replacement of the kitchen roof.  Thank you for your consideration.
