The Jewish Innovation
I’ve decided, after deep reflection and consideration, that I’m not going to write a confessional book describing my weight loss journey – frankly, who would read it? I have, however, resolved to do something that I never believed possible: I am going to take part in a half-marathon – that’s 13 miles, in case you need exact details. Of course, it’s not just any marathon – it will be the Las Vegas Strip Rock’nRoll Marathon on November 17, 2013 – so think flashing lights, glittery hotels, and desert heat!
Inevitably, I’m doing it for charity. My chosen charity is Mitchabrim USA, an organization for Israelis in the United States who are seeking (or not yet seeking!) to strengthen their ties with Israel and with other Israelis also living in the United States.
“Mitchabrim” helps unaffiliated Israelis build a community infrastructure and connect with other Israelis in their area by organizing small and medium sized events, ranging from cultural programs, such as art shows, and shabbat dinners, to social get-togethers for teenagers and young professionals, and exercise classes for stay-at-home moms. Jewish festivals are celebrated in traditional Israeli style, and Ivrit and Hebrew reading skills are taught to spouses and children of Israelis who wish to maintain their bond with Israel and their Jewish identity.
The United States is home to hundreds of thousands of Israelis and “Mitchabrim” is the only organization that works exclusively with this constituency, helping them to remain proud Jews and committed Israelis while living in their adopted home country.
Your support for this cutting edge Jewish outreach will help Mitchabrim organize and pay for more programs and events by increasing Mitchabrim’s reach, and strengthening its ability to draw more people in to effective programs that will affect the lives of hundreds and thousands of people.
Thank you for your support!
